The Hideaway
3 & 4-Year-Old Funded Kindergarten

The Hideaway is our combined 3- and 4-year-old Government-Funded Kindergarten program, offering a rich, play-based learning environment where children learn and grow together in a supportive, inclusive setting.

This program provides continuity, connection, and a strong sense of community, while recognising and responding to each child’s individual stage of development. Led by a qualified Early Childhood Teacher, the program is guided by the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF) and the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF V2.0).

Educators use intentional teaching and child-led inquiry to support learning across communication, problem-solving, early literacy and numeracy, creativity, and understanding of the world around them.

The mixed-age setting allows children to learn alongside peers at different stages, fostering collaboration, leadership, and confidence.

Younger children benefit from observing and learning from older peers, while older children are supported to develop responsibility, leadership, and care for others — strengthening social connections and a sense of belonging within the group. A strong focus on school readiness is embedded throughout the program.

Children are supported to build independence, resilience, and self-regulation, while engaging in experiences that develop focus, persistence, and confidence in group settings.

Daily routines, group projects, and collaborative play help children feel capable and prepared for the transition to primary school.

Learning in The Hideaway is enriched through a range of thoughtfully planned excursions and incursions that extend children’s understanding of their world.
Regular experiences such as Beach Kinder and Bush Kinder allow children to connect with nature, build environmental awareness, and engage in hands-on exploration beyond the classroom.

Our Intergenerational Program fosters meaningful connections with older members of the community, promoting respect, empathy, and a sense of belonging.

In addition, children participate in engaging incursion programs including Hey Dee Ho Music, Play Ball, and Japanese language lessons, providing opportunities to explore music, movement, physical development, and cultural awareness in fun and meaningful ways.

The Hideaway environment is thoughtfully arranged to encourage curiosity, exploration, and deeper engagement.

Open-ended resources, natural materials, and flexible indoor and outdoor spaces invite children to investigate, create, and reflect on their learning.
At Dromana Beach, The Hideaway offers the best of both worlds — a high-quality, Government-Funded Kindergarten program delivered within a long day care setting, providing consistency, continuity, and flexibility for families.
